With such further successes as the first gentle then pounding love song "Her" (combined with a poignant interview clip) and the snarling kick of "Amnesia" to its overall credit as well, Love of Life unsurprisingly proves to be yet another Swans masterpiece.

This is like part 2 of White Light from the Mouth of Infinity. And I don't mean that in a bad way, this sounds like a sequel. One thing that I don't like about this album was those random interludes, I don't think that they should've been cut from the album, but we don't really need 6 of them. Maybe if some of them were just one track would've been better? idk. Anyways, I do prefer this over White Light from ... read more

Ok, so "Love of Life" is probably a bit more filler-y than its predecessor, but that doesn't mean it's still magnificent. There are so many memorable songs that take the formula provided on "White Light" and build upon it. The production and instrumentation is great, the lyrics are unnervingly dark and the atmosphere is great! Some of their best shit to date!

The world is fucking burning and it sounds great.

This album is, a lot more intense than its predecessor for sure but, it's all for the better. This album is around 20 ish minutes shorter than the previous, and it shows with how quick and punchy it is. The opening song beats you over the side of the head with how sudden and intense it is, this sets the theme of this album, utter fucking destruction of what was built before. While the previous album was about religious beliefs in modern society ... read more
if White Light from the Mouth of infinity is the birth of a new, beautiful world, Love of Life is armageddon. the connection between these two projects is pretty clear, what with the similar sounds and similar cover arts. however, while the instrumentation is similar, Love of Life strikes an overall different tone than its sister.

right from the opening track, Love of Life, we're hit with this sense of impending doom. the quick percussion, the menacing piano, it gives the track a sense of ... read more
This is one the of Swans' albums I've revisited the least, and being myself a huge fan of the band I felt kinda guilty for that.
Love of Life is a great, and very overlooked album. Yes, it's pretty much a sister album to White Light that doesn't stand up to its big bro's standard; but that doesn't mean that's not a piece that stands by itself with some amazing songs, a beautiful atmosphere and some top-notch instrumentation.
The first half of the album is outstanding, the title-track, and ... read more
