Blood Orange tries his hand at classical music and falls flat on it face
( ☆☆½ ) ambivalent, i don't feel fully connected with it.

So Dev is a creative machine and decided to do a Modern classical record with Third Coast Percussion…but is it something anybody wanted? Who cares, to be honest. Dev is just going to keep on doing what he loves; creating. There's nothing overtly bad about this collaboration, but there's also nothing great. Maybe I'm missing some of the technicalities Dev and team focused on implementing, but it sounds weak. Sometimes the polyrhythms engaged, sometimes the modal quality excelled, but never soared and nothing felt innovative. The bit where they turned the mallets around and use the stems to play on the vibes wasn't too ridiculous, added a new dimension of texture, but it still felt juvenile, especially for a Grammy award winning percussion ensemble that has worked with Steve Reich.

Dev Hynes and xylophones. Pretty strong sound, but it doesn't have much of a climax.
