Well, it's pretty... However, if you asked me to name a single moment I really enjoyed on the album I would be hard pressed to give you one.
Another pretty record from Joan, who seems to be cranking out a good one every year
A Heartwarming Return To Heaven
Joan Shelley's music is for the most part, simple and non-intrusive. It's like a patch of flowers that you could pass on the side of the road dozens of times, but the moment you look a little closer, you notice that they're incredibly beautiful. 'Like The River Loves The Sea' is an album you could put on in the background and ignore, it's quiet enough and simple enough, but if you listen closely, it's beautifully composed. Joan Shelly adds heartwarming melodies in her songs. I only wish they were longer. Most of the tracks are so heavenly and quite that I become lost in her poetry, they seem cut off just a bit too short. I would love for the instruments to take me off into those clouds I picture when I listen.
