CRITIC REVIEWS

80
AllMusic

If Romance is an album about Cabello feeling loved and seen by someone else, it's just as much about her seeing and understanding herself as an artist.

80
The Independent
The Fifth Harmony alumni carefully avoids being swallowed whole by her very public relationship with Shawn Mendes on her ebullient and pleasurable second album.
80
Rolling Stone

She discovers new ways to give her artistry a new edge.

67
Consequence of Sound

Romance is a solid, sexually charged sophomore entry that places growth at center-stage and keeps us wanting more without going limp.

61
Pitchfork
The pop singer’s second album captures the thrilling feelings of experiencing love, but it becomes so universalized that it blurs it out of focus.
60
NME
She’s more than capable of producing earth-shatteringly big pop tunes, but on ‘Romance’ she has attempted to expand her palette into more textured ballads.
60
Exclaim!

Romance still relies on a structure that is becoming increasingly irrelevant, which ultimately overshadows many of the album's redeemable moments.

60
The Observer

he second Camila Cabello album, Romance, is giddy and frisky, but not to the point of nausea.

40
The Guardian
The singer’s second solo album is too heavy on the auto-tune, giving cyborg sheen to what should be heartfelt love songs.

Romance had potential to be a solid sophomore album for Camila... what a shame. Shameless is a great opening track, but soon after it steers into a lifeless and dull album, with no clear purpose.

While "Romance" isn't terrible by any means (aside from "Living Proof"), it's still an aggressively average pop record with hit-and-miss production and surface-level songwriting.

i just got fucked in the ass by liam and camila today.

this is somehow worse than her debut album.
say what you say, but camila had (very) few bops in it.
this piece of shit however has just 1 ok song and it takes 40 fucking minutes to reach there.

When Camila Cabello left Fifth Harmony, I instantly abandoned the fandom to support her. Some time later, it was finally proved how Simon Cowell is a scum, and the hype I had for her solo career was kept during the promotions of her first album. However, swallowing my own words when she used Shawn Mendes for publicity was the last straw for my activities in the pop community outside Lady Gaga's Twitter account.

"Romance" burdened itself day after day with miserable attempts of loose ... read more
