This album includes a wide variety of sounds taken from genres like funk, honky tonk country, & blues that are all connected together with a consistent Americana theme. Paul does a great job of changing his vocal style to match the tone of each song. Softening it for the slower introspective songs and bringing a fuller energy for the more up beat tunes. Musically, this is perhaps one of the best albums of 2019, as it showcases a vintage outlaw country sound and mixes it with some groovy funk and soul. The album does, however, leave a little bit to be desired in the vocal and lyrical departments. Cauthen's voice is a deep and smooth baritone (and the basis for "Big Velvet"), but he doesn't really utilize it to the fullest of his abilities on most of the tracks on the album. It's not a bad album, I actually really enjoyed some songs. Just the change in styles and rhythms throughout the album is tiring and kinda makes it boring at times. Paul's voice can take him to places, he just needs to focus on what genre he wants to embark on.
