On Land remains a landmark event in the genre, as well as one of its high-water marks, and sounds entirely up to date 20 years after its initial release. A superb effort.
Now THIS? This is some top tier ambient. His foray into the darker and drearier side of the genre pays off big time here. My Eno binge really has dug up some gems.
Standout: The Lost day
Favs: A clearing, Tal Coat, Unfamiliar wind, Dunwich beach; Autumn 1960, , Lizard Point
Least fav: Shadow
This is a very interesting album. Despite its minimalistic approach it makes a very wide and diverse atmosphere which definitely is solid for 1982.
By far the most interesting Ambient Brian Eno LP with intriguing themes of "land" and "being underground" and such prevailing when I listened to this. While it's overall a captivating experience, some of the tracks feel too gimmicky imo.
(Also where's Ambient 3)
Fav tracks: Lizard Point, Lantern Marsh, Unfamiliar Wind (Leeks Hills), A Clearing
Least fav track(s): Tal Coat
My favourite in the Ambient series. Eno takes Ambient dark and menacing. Such a perfect attempt at the darker side of ambient.
