The queen of pop came from humble beginnings, armed with only a guitar and her naturally beautiful voice a young Carly Rae Jepsen set forth to create a compelling folk album. Though many doubted her she came out ahead and slayed her canadian rivals with her catchy melodies and pleasant guitar riffs. It sounds like she heard Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie and was inspired to write a full album because of it

This actually surprised me a bit. While I definitely didn’t expect to love it, I’ll say this could have been much weaker for a debut and I’m honestly okay with the album. That being said, it’s definitely not for me and many songs follow a very specific songwriting pattern. It sounds really pretty, but she has a lot of room to grow as a singer/songwriter.

Ryan Stewart's debut album is a lifele- oh wait, that's not it? Oh, yeah yeah, right...
Carly Rae Jepsen's debut album is a lifeless collection of folk-pop that really has barely anything interesting about it at all.
The instrumentals are fine actually: they don't do absolutely nothing special, but they sound good; they do their job to be honest, so I'm not gonna talk about them.
