Me: "Not" by Big Thief is the best rock song of the year!
Phil: "Widows"

Phil Elverum is an extremely prolific musician and singer, compulsively creative, and this flow has only been slightly slowed down by the upheavals he has experienced in the last five years (the birth of a child, the death of his wife, a marriage with a new woman, and then a divorce). The frankness with which he composes his music makes it inhabited by all the wounds and routines that accompanied these ... read more

Lost widsom pt2 feels more like a mix of Lost wisdom and his most recent releases : a solid songwriting, cute folk and some strange arrangements.

While I feel that lost wisdom was more bold and a crow looked at me/now only more impactful lyrically, Lost wisdom pt 2 manages to have solid lines (Belief, real lost wisdom, love without possession) on his own.

Re-adding the sweet Julie doiron is really strange as I don't feel that lost wisdom pt 2 is a true follow up but more a refreshed lost ... read more

Wish it was easy to put into words the feelings these past few Mount Eerie projects have given me. Here, Phil continues the themes and stories of grief, over not just his late wife but also a recent divorce after remarrying. These simple slow acoustic pieces, along with Phil's incredibly emotive writing and Julie Doiron's lush locals create an album that's hard to turn your ears away from. There's a certain sense of dark hope this album gives off, perhaps given that Phil isn't just alone to ... read more

tldr: although not his most devastating release since a crow looked at me, phil elverum continues to grow both as an artist and a human

phil elverum's 2019 release is deceptively marketed as a successor to the lost wisdom album he recorded 11 years ago. interestingly, the only two things these albums seem to have in common are that they feature julie dorion and they're both crushingly sad (as pretty much all of phil's work is). from the first minute of belief, phil lets us know that he's still ... read more

What Phil Elverum has gone through the past couple of years saddens me to all ends, so it kills me inside whenever a new Mount Eerie project comes out, since I know I am up for a depressive time. My heart was broken on A Crow Looked At Me and Now Only, and now I have to listen to Phil continue a decade-old project, and it just doesn't feel the same anymore. The album is quiet, calm, and reserved. But I really never get too engaged with the project as a whole. I see what they are trying to ... read more

It's Phil Elverum, it's always gorgeous sad music.

A bit warmer than Phil's last two record's, however, this project just doesn't offer all that much musically or emotionally for me to be as attached to it. still a decent album.

Best Track: Love Without Possession
Worst Track: Pink Light

Phil Elverum returns to the side of Julie Doiron for a part 2 of his classic “Lost Wisdom” work. However, Phil in just about every way is a very different person. This isn’t the stark, introspective and gutting folk of “Lost Wisdom”. Not even close, this is just the next step for Phil after the death of his wife a few years back. He brings to light a lot of questions on what he’s been going through, as well as his relationships since. And honestly, ... read more

Songwriting at its finest.
Life experiences laid down as words, accompained by simple but thought out musical composition.
The two voices clearly work beautifully together and emotions are finely depicted.

Don't see why a singer-songwriter wouldn't put his life and how he feels in his music and I don't get why does this bother some listeners.

It may not live up to its predecessor, but it's till a solid addition to Mount Eerie's discography.

Wish I could say I enjoyed this more. The listening experience is just as pleasantly passive as the lyrical lessons within.

‘Lost Wisdom Pt. 2’ is an okay welcome to the Mount Eerie catalog. This album, however, will have a difficult time existing in Elverum’s discography as it is only a minutia of what he is capable of, making it a not-so-necessary follow-up to a project that didn’t need a sequel.

Ultimately it’s phil elverum doing a very competent Phil Elverum album, which is in no way a criticism. It may lack the emotional gut punch of his last couple of records, but that’s simply because he’s in a different place, dealing with different things in his life. The album illustrates his clarity or acceptance in his grief, and even looking forward hopefully to the future, delivered in his trademark spoken word style of emotional condor, which remains to be perpetually ... read more

Being a follow up for Now Only, and A Crow Looked at Me (my favorite album of 2017), I was looking forward to Lost Wisdom Part 2, but I found it to be pretty disappointing. I found the first Lost Wisdom to be a solid addition to the Mount Eerie discography, but part 2 felt a lot like a less cohesive version of part 1 and just seemed like some after thoughts from that album, despite it being over 10 years old. The biggest difference I can see is that part 2 is a lot more relevant, dealing with ... read more

Felt similar to this one like I did with the new Have a Nice Life record. It’s not bad but didn’t really resonate with me. Maybe I’m just too in to the new fka twigs album and am not giving this one a fair shot. Idk?? For now though it’s one that’s not at the top of my list to revisit. I will say tho, windows hits pretty hard.
