Man, I wish this album was better-produced because the things Kelis sings about really come from a place of vulnerability and strength.

The sound that is present throughout this album is very unflattering mainly because it sounds so painfully dated. Back when the album was released, the music industry was slowly transitioning into the brief but omnipresent "brostep" sound. Flesh Tones mainly serves as a document that shows that transition, as the sounds on this album are in common ... read more

Kelis is an artist that tried in her whole career to get some recognition, but never achieved her goal. She changed music styles many times too, from R&B, to pop, soul and house music and nothing changed, she only had some hits here and there. After i listened this album i understood the reason. Everything in this album is indifferent, her voice, the songs, even her facial expressions in her videos, she lacks some personality, but i don't think she is that bad of an artist, just something ... read more

An almost perfect album, Fleshtone is a vastly different sound than Kelis' previous 4 efforts, which were more RnB focused. The mixture of electronic, dance and euro-pop really suits Kelis' raspy deep vocals. Overall one of her best. Listen to: 4th of July, Scream, Brave, 22nd Century.

Love this new sound of Kelis it is completely different from her previous albums but in a good way, this electrohouse-pop really suits her.  Themes of the record are love, celebration and rebirth, and you can say if after first listen. The way the entire album flows together creates a brilliant piece of art.
