His sometimes unkempt vocal performances can work better in the smaller doses of singles or cameos, but here, as on 2006's "The Big Bang," he sounds like he has made the album his metier.
Following up his troubled 2006 release The Big Bang, Back on My B.S. -- or B.O.M.B.S. -- is guided by the "return to form" template, sometimes to a fault.
Taken on its own merits, there are more than enough moments on ‘Back On My BS’ to stop the world from forgetting his name. The pity is that, given he’s one of rap’s most distinctive voices, right now Busta seems to have no idea who he is.
Two decades deep in the game, Busta is still beholden to a style that ping-pongs between silly and steroidal, making his stabs at honesty fall awkwardly flat.
From its generic production to its generic T-Pain-helmed chorus to its generic title to Busta‘s generic get money rhymes, it’s emblematic of the uninspired offerings that reign on Back On My B.S.
Back on My B.S. disappoints regardless, making it a point of no contest that the Busta Rhymes of old is gone forever.
Busta is content to recycle well-worn material, hoping that enough polish and guest-star participation will wick away the album's dusty content. They don't, leaving B.S. as nothing more than filler.
I… don't know what to say. Who in their right mind condoned this? How can an artist with as much charisma, personality, and experience as Busta unironically push this oubliette of an album into the ears of innocent listeners? Not only does this have some of the most unlistenable production of the 2000's, but there's also songs that are downright racist and creepy. The experimentation is always incredibly awkward and tasteless, and Busta's rapping itself even goes through a midlife crisis ... read more
The worst produced Busta Rhymes album I've heard up to this point, which is SHOCKING considering Anarchy and the other mid he put out in the 00's. Even worse, his usually-stellar rapping falls off a cliff as well. I don't know a single person I'd recommend this obnoxiously pop-pandering sound/style or to, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemies. Trashing this album is just kicking someone while they're down, good lord, I don't even feel the sort of vindictive joy I normally do when I gleefully ... read more
