By 1956, Louis Prima was already building a huge career, a great all-round artist, swing jazz singer/musician and actor with a career spanning almost 30 years. Coming from a family of Italian origin, Louis was very young and passionate about music, inspired in particular by Louis Armstrong. He launched himself into jazz and became a professional musician in 1928 at the age of 18. He began playing in several orchestras as a musician and played in many concerts and performances.

1001 Albums to Listen to Before You Die - Album #4

Louis Prima is a jazz singer and trumpet player who is best known to my generation as the voice of King Louie in the Jungle Book. This is the sort of music your grandparents would drown their parents with all while saying, ok boomer, or the temporal equivalent. Loads of oldie goodies, some swing, some doo wop, some blues, and a hint of rock n roll's energy, it's all solid. But unfortunately I don't really enjoy those elements so this record bores me.
Great stuff. I do agree with Highwoman on the Sinatra thing, he has a better voice and better songwriting, but this album gave me a few laughs which was great.
Highwoman on the Sinatra thing: “A really great album, but I prefer Sinatra when it comes to this genre. Hopefully, we'll be exploring more in the genre though.”
Just look at that smile, who could honestly hate this guy huh?
The Wildest! is pure swing fun, Louis and company are a total romp to listen to. I mean just listen to him sing! He's got an undeniable charisma that carries the bouncy, easygoing instrumentation, and all the contributing vocalists do a fantastic job as well. It puts a smile on my face in seconds, and just for him I'd learn to bake a pie.
