Whether West’s 10th studio album continues down this path of praising the Lord, with hip-hop beats replaced by claps and group cheers, remains to be seen. But, for now, ‘Jesus Is Born’ serves as a gateway into gospel and a fittingly festive listen for this time of year. Praise be.
Kanye West’s executive-produced gospel album is the most realized music to come from this era of his career. The production and the choir’s dynamic power creates an almost hallucinatory effect.
With a platform as large as Kanye’s, his Sunday Service Choir is something we’re all yet to come to terms with, but ‘Jesus Is Born’ - as a stand-alone album - is pretty neat.

Jesus Is Born asks you to not question the intent of West, but to accept the spirituality the music espouses.

Without West's voice and personality as a distraction, the Sunday Service Choir is allowed to shine, delivering an inspirational, empowering, and utterly positive dose of purity that nourishes the soul.

If you're a fan of good music, simply, it comes across at times as grating after a close listen. Rife with talent, but also irritatingly repetitive.

The Guardian

Sunday Service Choir have helped West deliver a pretty well-executed genre album. Just don’t compare it to the rest of his mighty oeuvre. Should Kanye’s interest in gospel music prove temporary, this is likely to be remembered as an oddity rather than a baptism.

Spectrum Culture

While the lack of West’s voice on Jesus is Born is refreshing, the lack of his fingerprints is disappointing.

I miss the old Kanye, straight from dark fantasy Kanye
The flashing lights Kanye, the narcissist Kanye
I hate the new Kanye, the Jesus mood Kanye
The always gospel Kanye, Unless it’s the yeezus Kanye
I miss the evil Kanye, The 808s autotuned Kanye
I gotta to say at that time I'd like to stan Kanye
See I loved Kanye, it wasn't any Kanyes
And now I look and look around and there's so many Kanyes
Why are people acting like JIK gave them PTSD? What because Kanye made one bad album everything he'll ever make will be bad? It's like saying "I'm never listening to Bowie because he made Never Let Me Down!" or "I'm never listening to Daft Punk because they made Human After All!" Like, at least wait until the second album until you say "ok Kanye is over!" And this doesn't really count as it's basically JIK B-sides. I mean, is one not entitled to one bad album. ... read more
Jesus Is Boring

Kanye follows up his worst album with his second-worst album. If there's any praise I can throw to this album, it's that it's at least listenable. Aside from that, this is just an 84 minute snoozefest.

At first, this album doesn't actually seem to be bad at all. The first couple of tracks indicate that this album will be a pretty decent, inoffensive album that may be incredibly forgettable but certainly isn't that bad. But the problem is that this one singular sound, this one ... read more
DISCLAIMER: this review is a mess and mostly just the first thoughts that came to my mind
It actually just released (on time, actually really surprising to me) and I'd like to quickly say that after three tracks I've been pleasantly surprised. This review will not contain mindbreaking thoughts, as this is not an album I'm used to reviewing/listen to, but it'll consist of quick thoughts I have of it.

I'm not religious by any means, quite the opposite actually, but this is quite nice. I ... read more
Omg this album is listenable sorta kinda maybe, I doubt anyone actually wants to sit down and listen to the entirety of Jesus Is Born. It sounds nice but boring especially for it being 80 minutes, I’m not disappointed because I was expecting this but this album should be better it’s Kanye. At least Jesus is King had some interesting moments this was plainly not it Chief. Too simple, too boring, I think we’ll never get a normal Kanye album again. This is slowly killing his ... read more
