The Needle Drop

H.A.Q.Q. is the culmination of all of Hunter Hunt-Hendrix's musical innovations this decade.

Liturgy have once again crafted a coherent album-length suite of music, but this time they've remembered to make actual songs too.

Yes, H.A.Q.Q. cements Liturgy’s try-hard reputation. But it’s kind of thrilling to hear any band try this hard.

What "Jesus is King" should have been.

The new Liturgy odyssey, "H.A.Q.Q", is an excellent album in the current "post-black metal" movement (or "hipster black metal" if you prefer), which shows that a genre which got used to remain frozen in its "the trve, the kvlt" clichés, still in perpetual evolution and has been used, improved and recycled in an original way.

THIS IS SO UNDERRATED HUH?!?

This is the fourth album from the black metal band, and it is fantastic. I listened to their newest project, loved it, so obviously I was going to love this. And I have no clue how this only has an 80.

It's harsh and fast-paced, though there are some more quiet moments using instruments such as piano and bells like on the EXACO trilogy and the intro to GOD OF LOVE, yet extremely structured and well thought-out. Liturgy crafted another great album here. I swear they have some of the greatest chord progressions of all time. The sheer range of instruments on here is enough to say they're doing something progressive with the harp, melodic percussion, woodwinds and chimes on a black metal album. I can't get enough of this band right now, they are truly amazing.

A beautiful album that took an insane toll on me. The screaming is so intense but those little piano breaks are everything.
