Sorely missing the intensity and hard rocking approach of its predecessor.

The album starts very strongly, the first three songs all have a lot to recommend them, and the final two tracks are a satisfactory (if far from ‘career best’ standard) conclusion.

Unfortunately the tracklist noticeably sags in the middle which really takes the shine off ‘The Unraveling’.

Appreciate the sentiments, but where's the energy you expect in a protest song? The vocals can be cringey at times, but it's the lack of fire (except for the final three tracks) that leaves me wanting more.

Standouts: Grievance Merchants, Babies in Cages, Awaiting Resurrection

Dropouts: 21st Century USA, Heroin Again

Drive-By Truckers are an American band that have made waves since their beginning in the late 90’s to now for bringing together the worlds of country and rock into what is commonly known as Americana. For me, this album is kinda of a mixed bag, I enjoy some of the songs but for some others Thoughts and Prayers, 21st century USA for example() i just don't care for but overall it is a solid Americana/ country rock album and going into this record i thought i wouldn't enjoy it all but came out pleasantly surprised

This album was great.

They made every track matter, keeping every one unique and interesting while also conveying a message.Be it about drug dependency or the state of modern day America..

Simply put I didn't want this album to end,and I can't recommend it enough.
