Caitlyn Smith’s sophomore album isn’t daring enough to uncover any new earth, but it’s quite adept at its role within the mainstream country wheelhouse.
1: Holy shit. The first listen was amazing. If I were to describe this using only just a few words, it would be "country lyrics backed by adult contemporary instrumentation." It is just so good. Caitlyn's voice is so powerful and she doesn't hold back. Every single song from the first listen (except for maybe "Rare BIrd") has made me think, "Damn, this is good." Caitlyn Smith has range with her singing and throughout the album it shows. She reminds me of Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey when I hear her sing. Put Me Back Together is a track that shows how talented of a performer she is even when she says the lines "My Coca Cola Hennessy, Everybody says your no good for me." *groans* Other tracks like Long Time Coming show her talent for writing and hooks. Caitlyn Smith's Sophomore album is a well produced and decently written slice of country pop. Although commercial sounding at times in the beginning, Caitlyn's singing gives off enough emotion and musicality to keep this album solid.
It rides the wave of its predecessor a little too much, but both her vocal range and songwriting are still sharp. My favorites are "Damn You For Breaking My Heart," "I Don't Want to Love You Anymore" and "Rare Bird."
