it’s experimental music on a peculiar mix of drugs
'Happy Songs for Happy People' (how very droll) keeps to a shorter album length like 'Rock Action' but otherwise it feels like more of a return to the expansive landscapes of the first two albums - so an attempted refinement to come up with a 'best of both' scenario. They pretty much pull it off.

Opener 'Hunted By a Freak' is an impeccable widescreen beauty, and a similar atmosphere is maintained for the remainder of the first half of the album. The longest track, 'Ratts of the Capital', ... read more
"Happy Songs for Happy People" isn't that happy but is happy at the same time. I dunno, it's confusing. But I did get some joy out of this record! The compositions are great, the addition of synths really adds to the atmosphere and it contains some of their greatest tracks yet!
