the emotional devastation of mogwai is ever present on this album, as, in the music, it seems that everything is fading away.

‘rock action’ sees mogwai taking a slightly more electronic approach to their refined destruction.

the innovation of this album is engaging throughout; it features some of mogwai’s best career work.
They should have just put My Father My King on at the end of this instead of making it a separate EP. Probably not my fav Mogwai album, but sine wave is great and the entire B-side is great.
Following 'Come On Die Young' Mogwai were never going to return with a pop album, that would be plainly ridiculous...and yet, in some regards coming after those first two albums 'Rock Action' sounded a little bit like one all the same. It's shorter, a lot shorter, and the inclusion of more electronic effects and production tricks make it feel brighter, cleaner...maybe even glossier?

"Rock Action" took me on a depressing journey that "Come on Die Young" only wished it provided. Sonically, this record is fantastic, providing noisy atmospheres with calmer melodies and when the lyrics pop up, they're hauntingly beautiful. It also contains some of Mogwai's best work to date!
