slowly and gregariously, this album is a deep dive into what loneliness is. the heavy instrumentation evokes a sense of doom, as the surreal atmospherics complete the picturesque music.

this album completely accomplished what it set out to do: to create stunning, dark music that feels on a grander scale.

On 'Come On Die Young' Mogwai are instantly recognisable as the same band who recorded the debut, which is key for a largely instrumental group, but equally important is that they've already made subtle changes to their sound. The tone here is more sombre and sometimes distressing, it seems to be documenting a loss of innocence from the emotions conjured on tracks like 'Tracy' on the debut.

Although i do prefer the more eery and depressive soundscape found on this record over their debut. I must admit that it does drag itself a bit too thin in places and at 67 minutes long it could of been beneficial for the record as a whole to be cut down slightly. However, their are many great highlights on this record such as Cody, Waltz for Aidan and Christmas Steps and although this record doesn't have many lyrics the message of loneliness comes off instantly with its cold mellow atmosphere. ... read more
This album is incredibly depressing, so much so you’ll be hard pressed to find a moment of solace throughout. In saying that, it does an incredible job at enveloping you In it’s dark atmosphere - It constantly beats you down emotionally and strips away your innocence until there is nothing left but a husk.
