Consequence of Sound

There are no hard-and-fast rules stipulating that Madlib has to up the ante with each subsequent album, and The Professionals is very good. It’s certainly professional. But unlike Bandana, it won’t blow your hair back.

The brothers simultaneously add to their stacks of full-length duo LPs and put together a set that always sounds familiar but rarely less than fresh.

The preeminent crate-digging producer teams up with his younger brother, the rapper Oh No, for a soulful, topical, but reserved project that simmers just below the surface.

Ok yikes I literally forgot to upload this last Friday.

Anyway, The Professionals was one of my most anticipated albums of early 2020, mostly because of how much I loved Bandana last year (Madlib and Freddie Gibs). There have been talks about a collaborative album between the brothers ever since 2008 and it finally arrived in 2020 with The Professionals. Was ... read more
Yeah this is a solid hip-hop album. Madlibs production remains undefeated and Oh No matches it with some great rapping. Definitely expected and although gets boring for me at times it maintains consistency and its just good.
Despite Madlib's high tier production this does tend to be a bit forgettable.
