West Side Story is a great interpretation of Romeo & Juliet with a strong message of how immigrants are treated in this country (unfortunately even today). It’s got an intense head over heels love story with some great choreography. The music however is the shining gem that does not age for me, and even though I HATEE TONY AND HOW MUCH TIME HE HAS IN THIS VERSION, I find myself singing along….. A really solid soundtrack. This album captures the different emotions and feelings conveyed across the film. It is arranged beautifully, although some of the stylings of music may be a bit problematic these days. Nearly every single song on this album is known by many.
