The formulation of this short romantic detour from Leon Bridges and Khruangbin began, appropriately enough, on the road.

As connective tissue formed two years after Good Thing’s release, Texas Sun reads like a vital step for Bridges as he solidifies his personality in the studio and on stage. His vocals are shaped by easygoing cool; Khruangbin’s playing is shaped by laidback energy.

Texas Sun is a cool side project that is able to exist on its own without the pressures that critical acclaim has brought to both artists.

Under The Radar

Texas Sun may not generate a lot of heat, but with Bridges showing a proclivity to take things slower, Khruangbin makes for the perfect pairing.

“C-Side,” the best song on the too-short EP, comes across like vintage Khruangbin: all swirly and exotic with malleted grooves, off-pulse cowbell, and a funky, funhouse atmosphere that’s the sonic equivalent of Orson Welles’ The Lady from Shanghai.

After touring together, the psych-funk trio and the soul singer head into the studio for an EP that’s both tantalizing and a little half-baked.

Texas Sun is a very pleasant and relaxing EP that makes you feel like all your problems evaporate. This is mainly due to the hyper smooth and spatial instrumentation of the band Khruangbin that the talented Leon Bridges is walking around with his (still) sensational vocals.

These are not their best respective projects, but we must admit that the collaboration is a great idea because the alchemy was as if won in advance. The 4 tracks all have a fascinating story to tell, while remaining ... read more
I'm a huge Leon Bridges fan and I thought 'River' was a fantastic album. But this little collab EP was somewhat underwhelming for me. I definitely had higher expectations for this but it's still quite a nice little project. I like the diversity in the instrumentals with multiple different exotic sounds often coming in at once or being layered over one another. Bridges' vocals are great as usual, but the lyricism can be a little below-average at times. Nice project but there's a lot of ... read more
Very fuckable album
The news were great: Khruangbin works with Leon Bridges for a project about the Texas sun!
And then came this EP to set the record straight: the Texas sun isn't shining that much afterall!
A tad late to this but glad I got to it. Leon Bridges and Khruangbin deliver a short and quick four-track EP. This will be a brief review due to the length of this project but I am very happy with this.

I don't think there is a single project that Leon Bridges has touched that I haven't liked as of yet. The way that he is able to produce and deliver these 50s-60s type tracks in 2020 is beyond me. Seriously, someone could tell me that this song is from those decades and I would believe them ... read more
