The Needle Drop
Roddy Ricch is a talented enough performer and songwriter to make up for the fact he's still finding his voice.
This Compton chameleon borrows flows from anyone and everyone but gets away with it thanks to his sturdy songwriting.

It's not an unqualified success, but the hyped star's debut points to a promising future.

[original review]: Definitely one of the most overhyped figures in melodic trap
Roddy Ricch delivers a decent debut album. The first time I heard Roddy Ricch was his song Down Below which I thought was pretty good but nothing out of the ordinary. After that I only payed attention to him when his XXL cypher and freestyle dropped and while he was one of the better out of the class, he still felt rather uninteresting to me. I would be lying to you if i said before this project I had any intterest in Roddy Rich because i didn't. I had heard a couple of his songs that my friends played me on car rides and from what I heard he just sounded like a generic trap artist to me. When i heard this album was dropping and my friend was hype about it i decided to hop on the hype train with him although i had doubts but after listening. MANNNNNNNN. No Rich's style isn't hecka standout or nothing but man just makes good music. ... read more
I'm extremely behind on trap music, so I never even thought of checking this out. It's just banger after banger here. despite a couple stale features and a few forgettable hooks, It never really loses it's best qualities. And with a brisk 43 minute runtime, I'm never bored either... Except for the tracks that snag a little on the coat hanger of forgettable. Anyways, The Box is one of the best singles of 2019 let's gooooooooooo!!!
