Dilated Peoples follow the formula for one of my favorite styles of hip hop; boom bap with heavy scratching and catchy samples, but they use that formula so much as a crutch that even when you're listening to this album and enjoying it, it comes and goes without DP actually making any kind of impact on your palate.

Dilated Peoples' debut album was hugely anticipated in the hip-hop underground, thanks to a handful of excellent singles and guest appearances that began several years prior. When it was finally released in 2000, The Platform thrilled some and mildly disappointed others. Luckily I'm in the thrilled section.
Evidence approaches each verse with a gruff, laid back demeanor as if he doesn't have a care in the world while Iriscience's flow is upbeat, rhyming with a sense of urgency in his voice. ... read more
Very good
In the West Coast, you have gangster rap. But with The Platform, this term was switched over to the New York style. Dilated Peoples (a group consists of Evidence, Rakaa, Babu) takes it back to the 80's with classic flows, incredible beats and dope features. Wow!
