Fairly uninspired

Billed as a country album, the latest LP from the idiosyncratic soul artist born Jerry Williams Jr. examines grief from a distance, taking time to savor life’s little sweetnesses.

Jerry Williams Jr. knows how to tell a colorful story because he’s lived one. Swamp Dogg delivers a consistant, good rough blues album with Sorry You Couldn't Make It. A few production elements like the jazzy keyboard and the bongos stick out a bit too much but they don't completely ruin the smoothness of the sound compared to Swamp Dogg's gravely singing.
