It may be easy to dismiss this as ridiculous, but there's real style and craft here and its kitsch is intentional. It may elevate adolescent passion to operatic dimensions, and that's certainly silly, but it's hard not to marvel at the skill behind this grandly silly, irresistible album.

As a whole, Bat Out of Hell is a very consistent, very fun album. At seven songs, it delivers everything that you could ask for from a rock album in 1977.


I'm just gonna say it; I don't care for Meat Loaf. Not in the slightest. I know, I listen to more classic rock than I probably should, and this album being one of the best-selling of all time, I really should like this. But I don't. This is what I imagine people who don't like Queen hear when they listen to A Night At The Opera. R.I.P Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman, the latter passed away last April but unfortunately his passing was seldom talked about. This is the first record I ever bought and is still one of my favorite albums of all time, and I will be writing an actual reflection on this soon.
