The Line of Best Fit

Violet gives you everything you could want and have come to expect from Del Rey - and more.

With this collection of poems, Lana Del Rey offers an alternate view of the sun-dazzled California dreaming that fuels her songs. Her spoken word pieces reveal a more immediate lyrical sophistication, but they maintain the strange and powerful magic Del Rey has been cultivating her entire career.
The Independent

Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass is more than a vanity project (and a Grammy nomination for Best Spoken Word Album would not be a surprise) but it’s hard to believe that anyone other than a diehard fan would listen to the full 39-minute audiobook regularly.

The Observer
She is great on place specifics and internal assonance, less so as she wafts on about her own gentle nature.
a poetic statement solid as cement: complete with clever alliteration which correlates with numerological values. also, lana is an outstanding speaker, especially in the beginning.
Not gonna lie, Lana has had a rough year so far.

And that's ironic! A few months right after she released her critically-acclaimed near-masterpiece "Norman Fucking Rockwell!", she went on various petty tirades on Instagram about "what it means to be a female musician in the culture today." While I still find her now-infamous Instagram post tone-deaf and offensive, I love that Lana does not let outside factors like her haters affect her artistic ... read more
Sometimes it's not the music that matters most, it's the journey. And this journey of checking every 10 minutes for updates on where this album is has inspired me in more ways than words can explain. This is a beautiful piece of work by Lana Del Rey, an artist that is so ahead of the curve that she can announce a spoken word album and not even release it and we still come flocking to her. A timeless classic
I can't rate poetry as music album. aoty is the site dedicated to music.
