The Chili Peppers are the closest thing we have to a Led Zepplin today. If you want quality, commercial, Jeep- stereo, headphone, stadium- filling, champion Rock that you can get behind, where else are you going to turn?

Somewhat inconsistent for me, has a lot of essencial iconic singles, but there's a good amount of filler stuff as well. Cut it down to a 10 track project and it would be a lot better, imo.
Sounds like RHCP, funky but still emotionally evocative dispite Anthony's shortcomings in the vocal departments, the man knows how to use what he has, and the band has always been capable of delivering fun and also sentimentality. I grew up listening to a few artists that were not just selected from my mom's trunk of CDs, but on the radio instead. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were one of them. I loved this album as a kid. Or at least I thought I did. I remember listening to the smoothness of the title track Californication with the bumpy drums and groovy bass and the slow, swinging guitar.
