How many rock bands, alternative or otherwise, sound better after more than a decade? Not many, which makes the growing pains of One Hot Minute seem like well-earned merit badges.

One Hot Minute is a ferociously eclectic and imaginative disc that also presents the band members as more thoughtful, spiritual — even grown-up. After a 10 plus-year career, they're realizing their potential at last.


One Hot Minute finds them venturing furder down pop´s path, sculping their hyperactive musicianship into denser more pointed soundscapes - the kind of alternately loopy and ferocious din that will make a welcome island between Stone Temple Pilots and the Spin Doctors.

One Hot Minute is a mess, but honestly, it's also one of the most interesting albums RHCP would ever put out. The twisted and druggy atmosphere certainly gives it a very unique sound in their discography and when it works, like on "Warped" or "Coffee Shop" it's a ton of fun. This out of any of their albums, is the one that had the biggest potential to be groundbreaking, and it is a quality LP, with an astonishing production, amazing funky vibes, and also a more melancholic side. What lacks the most is a theme and lyrics, it sounds a little all over the place which turns this album to a very hit or miss album.
This record is all over the place, with tracks ranging from their most tolerable to downright awful. It might have benefited from being only one hot minute long.
Funky and groovy enough to be passable, but nothing exceptional from this effort.
