With a torpid and feverish dreaminess, the all-female quartet stretches skeletal dirges into tribal celebrations of night, death, and revenge.
The Fool flows like a dramatic mood piece – it sustains a homogeneous sound from beginning to end, casually changing course when it begins to drain itself out.
While not perfect, The Fool is a very promising début that grows in stature on every listen. If you're willing to put the time in, this could easily live up to the hype.
And while The Fool doesn't fully capture their brain-melded performances, it's a worthy simulacrum.
In fact, they’ve established such a distinctive, seductive M.O. that I could see Warpaint facing some challenges down the line finding ways to expand on their sound without a destroying what sets them apart.
There is an incredible level of detail and accomplishment to The Fool.
Like The Cure with a tribal/nu age dreamy vibe and yeah - I’m labelling them sexy - sexy female vocals.
Whenever I listen to Warpaint, I feel like a 14 yr old in the 1970s dancing alone in my room.
