I was a bit nervous jumping into this, but the ex-MCR frontman doesn't disappoint. His vocals are still as good as something like Danger Days, and that album seems like a good comparison because of how to they share the pop-rock (with a decent amount of electronica) genre. This album stays really consistent, and every track feels unique. There isn't anything that's amazing, but there's also nothing I'd consider even close to bad. Highly underrated, I'm not even an MCR fan but damn did Gerard gave his best on his solo album, it's unfortunate he hasn't released another solo album since.

Might have been a 100 if the mixing was a little different. Really, really great solo album from the frontman of one of the most unjustly disregarded bands in rock history (seriously, My Chemical Romance fucking ruled).

"Hesitant Alien" shows that Gerard Way is a very capable solo artist with all the emotional resonance, passion, fantastic songwriting and great sense of melody that helped him define My Chemical Romance. He's also able to bend genres extremely well, if not mixed a bit messily, with the usual sound with pop rock, noise rock and lo-fi elements sprinkled in tastefully!
