I've never heard any song by The Men before, I just listened to this because of its beautiful cover. Surely the album isn't noise rock, which was the primary genre of the band according to what I've read, so old fans must know this. The noisiest moments here are the second half of "Wading in the Water" and "Breeze", which is the only track I actually liked besides the opener, "Cool Water", a really peaceful and enjoyable song. t’s really hard to keep track of The Men these days. You never really know if they’re going to show up as a Punk act or something else. “Mercy” is their softest album to date outside of a track or two. And that’s far from bad because the twilit melodies and extended jams work in their favor. At this point though I genuinely really wish the band would hone in on a sound and grow on in.
