First of all fuck Morrissey, he's an ignorant, racist, piece of human shit.

However, I am one of those people who separate art from the artist...when I can. Sometimes you can't, like when watching an old Louie C.K. bit about how much he likes jerking off or listening to Michael Jackson sing "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)," stuff like that is too distracting. That happens once on this album for me on the titular track, "I Am Not a Dog on a Chain," where Morrissey sings about ... read more

Even though I periodically listen to Morrissey's solo material, I do not endorse or support any of his grim political views and statements.

Anyway, isn't this a website about music? So let's discuss about it.

I was curious about this album. The singles weren't that bad...I guess?
As a massive Smiths fan it's quite hard to jump to Morrissey's solo efforts, because they never quite match the same greatness as the band's discography.
I have to say, what impressed me the most on "I Am Not A ... read more

I don't think me saying that Morrissey is a horrible, terrible piece of shit is controversial in any way. Despite all that, I wanted to give this album an honest shot. And.... it's ok, I guess? The songwriting is alright but nothing to write home about either; it's just all o-k. The vocals are ok, instrumentals too and production idem. There is really nothing that stands out in a bad nor good way. It's basically o-k the album.

Fave tracks: Jim Jim Falls, I am Not A Dog On A Chain, Darling,I ... read more

How ironic is this man releasing an album during the COVID-19 breakdown, some time after he called Chinese people a "subspecies"? Stupid ass man.

After "Love Is on Its Way Out", I just HAD to conclude this man is a chaotic evil version of Son Dam Bi. But hey, I couldn't give two fucks for this kind of boomer music nowadays. Don't bother listening to this.

So...Morrissey...at this point I'm sure he needs no introduction, and I don't think I need to tell you about how controversial a figure he is. I will just start off by saying I quite liked the album, and it is all part of seperating the art from the artist. Anyways...I have never really listened to much of Morrissey's solo material, but I still love all four of The Smiths albums. While I don't think that I Am Not a Dog On a Chain is Morrissey's best work, I thought it was surprisingly ... read more

1: I'm not really sure what to make of this album upon first listen. I kinda hate it, but I also kinda like it. It makes no sense, but I kinda understand what it's saying. There's something about this album that makes me want to listen more, to dig deeper and find it means. But I think this is an album that's gonna take multiple listens over the next couple of months before i scratch it's surface of meaning. I'm giving it a 7.0 right now, but I have absolutely no idea what its final rating will ... read more

That is an OOF from Albumism

Musically, I Am Not a Dog on a Chain has some interesting moments and ideas but are often poorly executed and lackluster. This album is just forgettable much like most of Morrissey recent work

The fact that the songs on the new album are so good and the reviews of the pundits are so bad is just another proof that Morrissey conveys the truth, or at least his truth. I gues it's hard for those who disagree with Morrissey 's opinions because they are missing one of the best vocalists on the planet

This album is a mixed bag. Sometimes you get a good song topic over some interesting production while other times you get Morrissey being irrationally grumpy over bland pop production.

It is nice to hear that after all these years, he is still so passionate about his music and so willing to project his views on society, even if we know of them are flat out wrong. Here, Morrissey trying to delve in modern socio-political issues, but often his parables and parallels are a little too on the nose. The production can be described as quite progressive, but it has a kind of plastic sheen to it which makes the album sound a little false, this is further propagated by the weird smile ... read more

The opening track of 'I Am Not a Dog on a Chain' emphatically directs its audiences to not waste time and follow through with their intentions. This is fine lyrical hypocrisy however, as the album repeatedly wastes audiences' time stumbling across incredibly underdeveloped verses and annoyingly repetitive choruses before it gets to the point of most of its songs. This is sad, as some of the ideas presented in this album are genuinely profound; "Love is on its Way Out" juxtaposes the ... read more

Yeah, this is fine. Bland and inoffensive, as opposed to the man himself. There are some nifty ideas present that kind of get washed away by Morrissey’s reduced vocal agility.

Probably his best album in the last 10 years. He has improved himself as a singer and a live artist but there is also a hope he tops You Are The Quarry. But let’s not live the past. The first one is a freedom of choise if you want or not to be alive - Just really decide it! Love Is On Its Way Out keeps his saga on not believing in love - well produced and mixing guitars and piano strings. Is Bobby Morrissey? Is he finally giving us - with the perfect duo match - the answer that he knows ... read more
