LA Priest is the solo project of English musician Samuel Eastgate, who is most notable for his work as guitarist, lead vocalist and principle songwriter for the Dance-Punk group Late of the Pier. LOTP only have one album under their belts, the magnificently weird and fun Fantasy Black Channel released in 2008, reminiscent of Brian Eno's Art-Rock records filtered through the Synth-Pop of Gary Numan i can easily call it one of my favourite albums from the 00s. GENE's mesmerizing tones and rhythms and Sam Eastgates just as impressive vocal performances are mixed into a detailed and wonderful listening experience. Every risk taken yeilds a great reward.

GENE is an OK introduction to his music but I don't think I'm going to check out anything by him again with this first impression.. unless it turns into a massive success and everyone recommends it to me. There are some groovy beats in the background and his singing is very good.. something about it just doesn't work. I think its just because its not my type of genre, or maybe I'm just too scared too put this obscure album above Blonde by Frank Ocean, because I've probably already committed a ... read more
