GREAT (DAY OF DRONE #03)
Drone metal monsters Boris and Sunn O))) come together to create a fantastic album on Altar. I honestly can't tell whether or not I like this more than the last album, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma's Love is a Stream, so I decided to just give it the same score. An album that so oddly sounds comfortable in hell. While some tracks are able to hold up some normal structure due to Boris' vocals (like the track "The Sinking Bells"), most of the runtime on Altar is taken up by dark air and incredible percussion.
An excellent blending of their two styles, a great collab where each band brings out the best in the other.
It's the rare and odd sort of collaboration that doesn't just mingle some of the greatest strengths of both acts, Altar pushes them in new and exciting directions.
