A caring heart lovingly melds like silk with her beating passion for music. A cultural phenomenon in the Latin American music scene, Natalia Lafourcade embraces the distinct musical heritage of her homeland, renovating her old songs into beautiful, traditional folk and pop soundscapes in an album dedicated to Mexico. Truly a breathtaking voyage, it's a charity project whose profits are going to help restore cultural centers damaged in the 2017 Puebla earthquake. In an incredible display of ... read more

Great

Touching up on my spanish reviews since I’m not in school right now, and I need some practice.

Incluso si todavía estoy atrapado en mi casa ... read more

Me encanta.

This is one of the most thoroughly pleasant, charming, and joy-filled albums I've had the privilege to listen to this year. Every second of this thing is so endearing and warm. Even the songs that have a little bit of a darker tint to them, like Hasta la Raíz and Un Derecho de Nacimiento feel more like a part of a celebration than anything. And that's exactly what this album is. It's a celebration of the Mexican folk music tradition in all its forms.

Natalia's voice is as on point as ... read more

I don't even speak Spanish but I can just feel the magic pouring out of every song, filling up my soul with its grandiosity and charm.

Absolute beauty of an album!

The album feels like a natural continuation from Musas series, it still has that lovely folkloristic soundscape - it's rythmical and the harmonies just make me smile. But on this album the instrumentation is just so very lush - the strings, flutes, trompets. There is even a harp!

I think it's very difficult to achieve music that is beautiful and interesting at the same time, but Natalia LaFourcade has done it once again.

Mexican singer-songwriter Natalia Lafourcade has returned with a new record. Following up her great pair of projects, “Musas”. Those are two very ambitious projects to follow. But I still find things to really enjoy with this new record that seems to also be part of this new record Un Canto por México. Which also seems to be the first part to two projects that she will be releasing. The record opens up very energetic and grand with “El Balajú/Serenata ... read more

Your fav could never tbh.

Otro trabajo sólido de Natalia ... read more

¿Y qué más ... read more

[EN/PT]

As in Muses, Natalia alternates between covers, new songs and reinterpretations of songs released in other projects of hers.

But while the new songs are the minority here, the results are truly unlike anything Natalia Lafourcade has ever delivered. Clearly, the acoustic guitars such as those in Musas' two volumes remain as one of her music's main elements, but the addition of accordions, violins, trumpets and other types of percussions brings a more specific piece around the search ... read more

I am ridiculously underqualified to review this record given my lack of exposure to Mexican folk music, but this seems like one of the best places to start. Natalia has a strong voice with lots of character, and when backed by some groovy production, it makes for an enjoyable record, even given the language barrier for me.

Great

Ok, I am not fluent in Spanish much at all, but this was one beautiful experience. The strings, the trumpets, every single instrument on here create such a vivid picture of Mexico. She has amazing vocals, along with the other artists she collaborated with. Overall, this just felt like a really magical album, and I enjoyed almost every second of it.

Best Tracks: Pretty much all of them

Least Favorite Track: Nunca Es Suficiente (still good)

Despite the length, Natalia Lafourcade's latest effort is an ambitious and well-done tribute to Mexican music and culture. It is also another lovely addition to her expansive yet immaculate catalog.

Rating: B+ to A-
Organic beautiful Mexican indigenous music with a soft instrumentation palette. The first track starts in a celebratory acoustic ness then repels you into what you might call, my fellow gringo americano, a mariachi style passage filled with exciting horns. A song that has been covered many times. This album might not be linear, but it is a good array of voice prominent songs with rich instrumentation of acoustic, horns, and the feeling of indigenous.

Never thought I'd praise a 1-hour mariachi album, but lo and behold, here I am. Sounds fresh throughout. Would probably give a better, more viable review, if I understood the genre better.
