Clash
'Colores' stays true to the reggaeton roots that J Balvin has built upon during the years of his influence on the Latino music scene.

The Observer

A riot not just of colour, but of ideas too.

Consequence of Sound

Balvin remains a power player in the globalization of the #LatinoGang, and Colores continues to showcase his colorful flow and spirit as a beacon in the movement.

Pitchfork
Already a global star, reggaetón’s reigning hitmaker tries his hand at becoming an auteur with an audiovisual album.

Rolling Stone
The Colombian hitmaker’s latest is a sophisticated survey of his sonic palette.

AllMusic

There isn't much lyrical substance on Colores, and there doesn't need to be. It's a party record whose lyric flows are effortless and laid-back enough -- a Balvin trademark -- to attract listeners inside and outside musica urbano's big tent.

The Guardian
The Colombian returns with an infernally catchy album set to smash cultural boundaries – if not artistic ones.

Good

Towards the beginning of the track list, I thought to myself “Does J Balvin have chromesthesia like me?”
Seven out of the ten tracks on “Colores” match up with my synesthesia, which is pretty cool, and definitely gives the record a bit of a bias for me. I really dig the creative themes throughout this thing, which is its strongest suit.

J Balvin delivers a short reggaeton album where each track is named after a colour. That is pretty much the only real standout characteristic, but the album itself is for the most part pretty fun with very catchy and slick production, as well as some very catchy flows from J Balvin. While some tracks aren't too interesting, as well as some tracks having very dull flows and the track Amarillo having completely out of place trumpets, I suppose I enjoyed it more than anything?

God damn it. I was actually looking forward to this album because I really loved the first 2 lead singles that came out of it (Blanco & Morado), and even after giving Colores a few listens, out of 10 tracks, I still only enjoy the 2 singles, because aside from them, the same issue I stated in my Bad Bunny review appears here. Every song on this album just sounds like every other song J Balvin’s been doing for the last 2 years. It’s all the same with nothing standing out, and ... read more
