HipHopDX

Pop Smoke’s raw growling was jarring and hard against these bouncy beats but surprisingly, it’s also wildly effective.

Exclaim!

Though the tone of Pop Smoke's voice is already enough to set him apart from other artists coming out of New York, there's energy felt in his music that keeps you engaged.

Pitchfork

The rising Brooklyn rapper’s new mixtape gets over on sheer maximalism just like its predecessor, with enough deft touches to keep things exciting.

NME

Pop Smoke’s latest is one for the mosh-pitting party goers.

Update: Rest in Peace, Pop Smoke. I can't keep doing this, every new artist I like is starting to die. My earlier review of this album called it "Gas station robbery music". Who knew that the act of robbery would lead to his death. His career had only just started as well. Once again, R.I.P.

This is a song not an album, all the songs sound the exact same with his crackhead takeoff voice

For me, Pop Smoke is the embodiment of that imperfection embellishment that eventually conquer you in one way or another. So yes, let's be honest, he's not a great rapper, he doesn't wield the pen or show any versatility, however Pop Smoke has his own universe, an atypical flow/voice, and a charisma as muscular as it is thunderous, which reminds me much more of the old rappers of the 2000s than the ones of today (he's clearly a 50 Cent kid).

As I was saying Pop Smoke represents imperfection, ... read more

REALLY GOOD

This review was originally going to be scrapped, but due to Smoke's recent untimely murder, I decided to post it anyway, just to give the man the praise he deserved while he was alive before it's poured on his grave. This review will probably seem a little unfinished because it kind of is. Besides a few tweaks here and there, I haven't edited it, and since I wrote this during one of my first listens of this tape, it'll probably play out like a sort of reaction. That's not the ... read more

Update: Score went from 66 to 85

This project has grown on me a ton. Pop Smoke's beat choices, vocals, lyrics and delivery just stand out a ton in a good way and he had a ton of charisma and energy. It's tragic to see how he had to go out like that. RIP Pop Smoke.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

Before I start the review off RIP Pop Smoke. Nobody deserves to go out like that and it's just heartbreaking to see another rising star die young. RIP Pop Smoke
