Nu-Clear Sounds sees Ash take a heavy and largely melancholic approach to their sound. The melodic side of the band is yet to come, so this album feels like a darker record between the lighter 1977 and Free All Angels. There is a huge emphasis on loud guitars and a high tempo, so both the vocals and the other instruments drown under the guitar riffs. In that sense, the album stays true to the band's pop-punk origins.
