Empty Country is a totally sensational album, which doesn't only cotton to pure and raw indie rock, it exudes great emotion and seizable sincerity. It is to my surprise one of the most remarkable, thrilling and captivating rock albums I've listened to in recent months.

Founder of the indie band Rock Cymbals Eat Guitars, which disbanded around 2017, leaving us 4 remarkable albums including Why There Are Mountains and LOSE, Joseph D'Agostino offers us a first solo album in the continuity of ... read more

Fantastic work from the Cymbals Eat Guitars frontman. A slightly different sound, more Americana and slight post-rock vibes on occasion, but the same unmistakable voice of D’Agostino. If you’ve liked CEG then you’ll definitely find something you like. Some stunning songs in here.
Ultrasound and Untitled are a helluva 1-2 punch early in the album. Can’t wait to dive in deeper, and way more often in the coming weeks. Early contender for AOTY.

What I enjoy most about this album is that it's very atmospheric. As well as the instrumentation, which is top notch! Marian and Clearing are stand out tracks!

Joseph D'agastino's first solo record after the breakup of the criminally underrated indie-rock band 'Cymbals Eat Guitars' illustrates his continued path towards roots rock while still maintaining the gritty rock and shoegaze production that gave all of those CEG's releases their legendary punch. The title and artwork for Empty Country couldn't be more poignant in our time of self-isolation and paranoia. Ambitious song structures is nothing new for D'agastino but he does a great job of growing ... read more

i’m not gonna lie, i’ve never really listened to cymbals eat guitars, so i went into this album not knowing what to expect. thankfully, any possible expectations i could have had would have been shattered after first listen. i love the instrumentation as well as the vocals on this album, and even though the vocals probably won’t appeal to everyone (they’re not perfect, there’s a few notes here and there that don’t hit right), i found myself still enjoying it ... read more

First impression :

This album made me so nostalgic and why I love indie rock band. Sure all the tracks aren't totally consistent (specially in the middle) and some vocals are shaky but the emotion is here and they bring some jewels (Marian, emerald and diamond are really strong). Not the strongest project but a good one to check

This debut from the side project of Cymbals Eat Guitars, Empty Country has a certain emotional and nostalgic feel to it, but ultimately comes off as flat at multiple parts of its nearly 50 minute run time.
The vocals sound like if Rivers Cuomo & James Mercer had a child. Overall, they’re pretty inconsistent. The attempted falsettos just don’t land but there are some pretty melodies here and there. instrumentation is pretty bland but I like to see that there is at least some ... read more

I am very proud of my music taste these days. I am not going to argue that my taste is somehow better (and I hope to God I am not sounding pretentious), but I look back on the journey I have taken to get where I am and I can't help but smile. However, deep down, I am still that kid that was weened on indie rock, I am still that fifteen-year-old who worshipped Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes. Every now and then, all I want is a fix or pure, raw indie rock, and that is exactly what Empty Country ... read more

'Empty Country' is....well...not that good.

This album is just way too flawed to work and gets really old, really fast.
The production is just too messy across this entire album and the mixing is just awful.

The vocals are too indistinct and barely there in certain parts that even if you care about what is being said you rarely ever get to hear anything.

Another that really kills this album is its unnecessary run-time as most of it is achieved through extended tracks to no real effect as it ... read more
