Chilombo is lyrically "freestyled" by Aiko, creating a breezy, trippy, unapologetically independent effort that shines a light on her continuing musical growth and quest for self-determination.

Despite confident, freeform performances, Aiko's music too often lacks a pulse.

The Guardian

Unfortunately, neither Aiko’s narrative nor the fairly one-note production can sustain that focus across this wildly over-long record.

This was my first time listening to a Jhene Aiko project, and I’m not impressed. This is literally one long song. It’s the same song over and over. It isn’t terrible, and there are some decent songs, but it’s just so generic, average, and forgettable. She has a nice voice, and the production is ok, but the songwriting and performances are too generic for this to really connect.

I can barely remember any of this album already. This is so uninteresting, boring & just forgettable. I genuinely fell asleep. GENUINELY. GENUINELY
You want an album which is basically one note all the time. This is that album. The production is simple and has very little variety. Jhene Alko vocals are solid but come off quite bland and some of the features just seem out of place in this album and also don't forget it is 20 tracks long with an hour of music. Like seriously, i know it is to get more streams and all that stuff but artists need to stop over bloating their albums, it is just ruining the format of LPs.

Blissful, gorgeous production caked with ambience and atmosphere, standout features across the board, a consistent sound and tone that's paired well with the themes of the record, and easily her best vocal performances. Jhene delivered a genuinely great outing here that's only slightly held back by it's length. If this was just a few tracks shorter, it would be my album of the year. As it is, I still highly recommend it.
Not bad, on par with her other albums, what's good about her is her production team stays with their finger on the pulse of modern pop and trap R&b trends. She works with great people and keeps her writing fresh, and a stylistic improvement.
