"Slowly, I went through the village I imagined as a child, I hope to never go back there."

I admire when albums this simple make me feel this way, leave me nearly breathless & enamoured til the very end. Albums so full in spirit, crafted carefully with so much love for the art, it seems you've fought through a tsunami or swam through an ocean to get through them. Such a special occasion for music this new seems strange, unordinary. These moments are so few and far between that ... read more

“Hide your kids hide your wife. Klô Pelgag is gonna make you cry.”

Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs is an island/village in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region of Quebec. It's hard to believe a place like this still exists in the modern world. An independent village with a population that's less than 100 people is unheard of in a first world country. Yet, its a place that feels so important in the grand scheme of things. It's untouched by the sin and perversion of the modern world. ... read more

Language barriers be damned, Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs is a phenomenally adventurous, lush, and even sometimes haunting album from the French-speaking Klô Pelgag. Without having a lot of background on what to expect, I couldn't have been more enthralled with the end result.

Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs is such an emotively powerful album that understanding what is being said isn't necessary to feel the artistic expression. Umami is an up-tempo, pop-centric song juxtaposed with ... read more

Look through the hole of a musical kaleidoscope and see this little Canadian girl stare back at you with those... creepy eyes. Within seconds, her gaze transports you to a world of sweeping orchestras, dreamy ambiance, posh candidness, sweet acoustics, and pillowy voices. A psychedelic experience, for sure.

Hate to be that guy, but I don't have a ton to say about this record as the listening experience really speaks for itself. The instrumentation is drop-dead gorgeous, Klô Pelgag's vocal performances are consistently stunning, and the tracklist is consistent. Pretty beautiful shit to be found here. Essential 2020 drop.

Unspoken Rule Of AOTY.org - Inglume Is Always Correct

WOW. Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs contains some of the most beautiful pop songs I've ever heard. From the absolutely gorgeous voice of Klô Pelgag speaking one of the most gorgeous languages ever to the classical-influenced instrumentation, this album is filled to the brim with amazing moments. This is a must listen, and I can absolutely see myself returning to this a lot throughout the rest of this year and beyond. Considering this is ... read more

An exciting combination of art pop, baroque and the French chanson, this latest record from Canadian-based artist Klô Pelgag is a revelation as it constantly immerses listeners to a world of fantastical quality without losing its own universality and sense of wonder. The language barrier is not a hindrance to understand what the artist is saying and that won me over the record. A high recommendation to this record. Not to be missed.

AOTY is a website to review music where most users will do so in English, because, as everyone knows, it usually is the language that is best known around the world and that allows people from completely different backgrounds to connect with one another. Thus, most albums that generate numerous ratings are generally the ones containing English lyrics. Imagine my surprise as a French Canadian at finding a French Canadian artist whom I admire peak through the top 5 user ratings on this site. It ... read more

It's always great when an album can simply be so brilliant by itself, that it overcomes barriers that would stop most people from even trying

Klô Pelgag is the musical moniker of Chloé Pelletier-Gagnon, a singer-songwriter from Quebec, Canada. The barrier that i mentioned is that Klô sings in French and I'm an uncultured idiot who can barely speak English...

Best album of 2020.

Klô has been my favorite French speaking (and singing) artist for quite awhile now. Her particular brand of quirky but accessible art pop up to her 2016 album "L'étoile thoracique" has been like comfort food for my soul; her voice is lovely, production choices and backing instrumentation beautiful...one of my favorite artists, period, in fact.

"Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs" is better than anything Pelgag has done up to this point. The ... read more

One thing I love about this album so much is that the language barrier isn't an excuse for me to not feel this album's progressive weight. "Soleil" and "Für Élise", would have been too subtle for my liking if they were any less fine-tuned or treated, but if anything their hushed, mystical allure draws me to them over and over again. And I think that's this album's real prowess - this album's world and the types of sounds it can evoke just grow minute by minute ... read more

Truly gracious and magical, shows that somenthing so calm and soft can still have a strong and impactful effect on the listener.
Fav. Tracks: all of them expect Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs
The entire body of work feels cohesive and interesting, it has a lot of replay value.
I feel like there is a piece of the puzzle missing because I don't understand the language, that stops me from seeing a beautiful landscape.

Practically halfway through this pretty shitty year and we get blessed with this, thank you Chloé.

I've always cherished albums like these; when everything is harmonized so elegantly and stunningly... when it all seems pretty effortless... I really can't stop myself from loving it. When I listened to the latest single from Klô, "La maison jaune", I was pretty hooked.

"Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs" refers to a very small island, upstream in the Lawrence River ... read more

Even though I'm learning French, I had trouble understanding some lyrics, later I found out that she was from Quebec, that makes sense because I had a bad time trying to fully understand a teacher's accent from there (just a funny fact, nothing relevant at all )

Damn, this thing is immaculately produced, and the lyrics are so clever that they relate to each other and make this album's story more understandable, sorry if I'm impressed by this, but not many people know how to do it right.
