Drab city comes together with a weird mix of breathy vocals paired with boom bap esque production on some tracks and a more ambient alternative sound on others. In my opinion this album is that of the band’s name, drab, it is just very boring and doesn’t seem to go anywhere on any track, I feel that the instrumentals are on their own pretty good and the vocals are just very boring and lacking substance to drive them through the track and just end up dragging every track down. This is the debut album by trip hop act Drab City. “Good Songs For Bad People” is a mysterious and interesting record. The duo uses elements of jazz, indie and hip hop to construct these eerie yet cool sounding songs. You can hear the Portishead influence on the band’s instrumentation and production choices.
