Lil Baby manages to keep every moment fresh, finding a unique and unlikely midway between artistic inspiration and commercially viable entertainment.
The Atlanta rapper tries to tell the story of his rise to fame on his guest star-packed new album, but the music is all work and no inspiration.
Despite being a record of two halves, ‘My Turn’ is an enjoyable collection of tracks for his loyal fans.
At least a quarter of the swollen, 20-song track list is a repetitive slog that could have stayed on the cutting room floor. With the clutter removed, the best songs of the bunch could have had a chance to really shine.
With its hourlong runtime, My Turn has a lot of filler. But Baby’s filler is premium grade. While most rappers dream of making one song with potential to get radio play, Baby makes radio songs in his sleep.
God. He probably doesn't even get feedback in the studio because the people are sleeping. This is just boring and lifeless man. Kids be really failing their classes because they'll listen to a Lil baby album before a test and they really wonder what caused them to fail
Although you can't rely on the first listening and give it a bit of time, My Turn is an album that leaves me with a bit of a bitter taste.
But I had high hopes for this new project, which I thought was going to be a good one, being a good fan of the rapper, but in the end it's a bit of a frustration.
