In an genre of music that seemed to be filled with nothing but annoying, whiny and downright intolerable music, Deftones seemed to have the nu-metal formula down. And here they are at their prime, firing off all cylinders at their most fearsome, while changing the music scene they were in at their tamest. Experimental, fun, entertaining, poignant and just all around great, White Horse is an trip you have to take.

The reason why I even decided to binge Deftones so early was because I was hooked onto "White Pony" for a solid week!
This album pulls the band even further away from their nu-metal roots (mostly) while focusing more on twisting and turning the alt-metal sound into their own. This thing is hella experimental when it comes to toying with said sound. We're talking about blending elements of metal with shoegaze, dream pop, even trip hop on one track. After making one of the best Nu-Metal albums ever, Deftones didn't slack off at all and created a unique album that stands out in a sea of nu-metal copycats. Pink Maggit also may be the best closer ive ever heard, and brings me to tears sometimes. an absolute phenomenal album
Deftones take Nu Metal as far as it can go on this record which is why they spread out into different genres later on in their careers. This record front to back is a masterpiece with no real weaknesses and really stretches the limits of what is typically a limited and formulaic genre into something much more songs like Change (In the House of Flies and Knife Prty some of the band's influences that they would later embrace fully are visible here like the shoegaze and post-metal they world ... read more
