Mamaleek's journey has been an interesting one, and perhaps provides important context for their most current albums, including Come & See. Their two earliest albums, Mamaleek and Fever Dream, are experimental heavy black metal assaults that easily pair the genre with industrial that at its heaviest reminds me of Sutekh Hexen. It’s a beastly and noisy rock album, with throaty and animalistic vocals and unpredictable song structures, but there’s an ugliness to this album that I find to be more unappealing than otherwise. It starts off well enough, but there’s an element of self-indulgence in the latter half of the album that rubs me the wrong way.

Mamaleek is a metal band that has been in the underground for quite a large amount of time. While this record is the first time I have heard of them, I’m sure to be checking out their other stuff after hearing this record. I certainly did. This record is insane. Combining elements of Avant Garde, Black Metal, Jazz, Lo Fi, Hardcore, and Trip Hop, this is easily one of the most creative records I’ve ever heard.
