fuck the guardian all my homies hate the guardian

so, KiCk i, the first album on Arca's new trilogy (the next albums being called KiCk ii and KiCk iii), is probably the most difficult Arca album to put into a genre - and that's literally what she wants.
interpolating two or three of her own past songs, she blends experimental pop and reggaeton in her new masterpiece, making it one of the most unique electronic albums i've ever listened to (her 3 other albums Xen, Mutant and the self titled ... read more

Kick I is the latest futuristic answer mixing psychedelia and industry, which has the gift of taking us on a sound journey as eccentric as it is sensational. Humanly speaking, never before has an Arca album been so down to earth, showing all the convictions of its author.

Whether we know her music and her history, Arca has already left her mark on pop culture and art, during the last decade, more or less on a large scale, occupying an important place in the evolution of modern music. After ... read more

'KiCk i' é tão profundo quanto o poder de Arca em sempre conquistar um novo espaço na indústria, seja sendo produtora de artistas como Kanye West e Björk, ou criadora de seus importantes projetos dos quais ajudam a compor de maneira sólida e progressiva, a nova vanguarda da música.
E é com uma produção voltada para suas raízes que Arca conta com a presença de nomes importantes na composição do ... read more

Doña Arca serving post-modern alternative album and I'm fucking here for it!! I've discovered her work not that long ago and of course I am a fan, I love artists that aren't afraid to take us to the next dimension of music freedom. Maybe she's too ambitious, maybe she's a state of art, maybe she's overrated. The fun is in the undiscovered. Also the production is 1NS4N3 as always.

EDIT: It grew on me lol, i still like the more abrasive cuts much much more than the emotional cuts. the only ones i liked were Time and Machote, but yea it's better now. I finally liked an Arca album!!!
Favorites: Nonbinary, Time, Mequetrefe, Riquiqui, Watch, KLK, Rip The Slit, La Chiqui, Machote

durp…

Arca is an artist I’ve always wanted to love, mostly for the way they experiment with different genres such as glitch, electronic, and pop, creating a sound all her own. However, ... read more

Aggressive industrial avant-pop merging with intense deconstructed club bangers subsumed the gun sounds, galvanized objects, breaking glasses and strange percussions will take everyone to hyper futuristic dimension of this record titled “KiCk i” by Arca which is planned to be a series of albums.

On this record, Arca talks about the emotions which includes the commitment on defiance and bold resistance towards people who are against of inclusivity, dispersing delighted joy whilst ... read more

Probably some of Arca's most eccentric but also most pop-sounding work to date, Arca shows why she's become so respected as a producer by further pushing the envelope of pop in her own unique way and consistently coming out on top

Favorites: Mequetrefe, Riquiquí, Afterwards, KLK
Least Favorites: Nonbinary, Rip the Slit, La Chíqui

Arca further proves she has quite the diverse catalog, this time moving out of the conventions of genres entirely. "KiCk i" combines her usual glitchy electronic stylings with a more accessible reggaeton-fused sound. That style would usually turn me off but I think it works surprisingly well here, showing Arca's dedication to her craft. The results are pretty inconsistent compared to much of her discography as there are a few moments that prove to be underwhelming (or slightly ... read more

Arca really grasped me and held me tight with her self-titled album from 2017, and continued to keep me held in when I went back on her album Mutant. Each of those albums come from very different places, and KiCk i feels like an entirely new beast for the Venezuelan artist.

Where the album Arca was far less club-beat heavy and focused more on experimental pop sounds, this album is a constant barrage of heavy beats and mechanical noise, outside of the very 2017 closer No Queda Nada. The shifts ... read more

I had heard of ARCA before this album, but I had never heard a song. I decided to check this out, and I really wanted to love it. But while I do like a lot of this, the albums feels a little too messy for me to really connect with it deeper. There are some moments on here that I like and really grab my attention, but overall it just feels too directionless and I don’t see myself returning to this entire album much. Definitely a lot of potential though.

love the sound of this album. Really stepping on new ground for not only herself as an artist but in music itself. Might be overexaggerating but honestly songs like KLK and Mequetrefe dont sound like nothing i have ever heard before. Also it just sounds so undefined. So hard to put in a genre, i love that. So excited for kick ii.
My biggest complaint is that the second part of the album starts off a little lazy. Watch is a good track but the two following tracks are a little lazy/boring. The ... read more

8.5 - Great

This sounds like drowning in a computer and I love it

KiCk i, and Arca as a whole, is something I have wanted to get into for a while now, as I have gotten constant recommendations from my friend, her Grammy nomination, as well as the fact that I absolutely adore the tracks Mequetrefe and KLK. So I just decided to jump in and yea, this thing is great. Arca’s production is just off the walls and super hard hitting, with it being some of the most unique and bonkers shit I have ... read more

GODDAMMIT THIS RECORD IS SO UNAPOLOGETICALLY BADASS AND IM LOVING EVERY BIT OF IT

Also: HOLY SHIT I WILL NEVER STOP TALKING ABOUT THAT BJÖRK FEATURE ON “Afterwards” THAT SHIT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL 🥺

Arca’s talent as a producer never ceases to amaze me. The bombastic, off the walls style she has is absolutely mesmerizing at times. I first started paying attention to her after listening to Yeezus for the first time and she has done nothing but fucking impress since.

This is simultaneously the most accessible, and yet also most cohesive project arca has ever dropped. After relatively enjoying their previous project, they've been able to completely blow it out of the water with a sprawling, beautiful avant-pop piece with some beautiful production and enveloping, utterly captivating vocal performances through and through. And even though I did they this was their most accessible release, for arca that still means this goes very out there, with unique and ... read more

One thing I’ve noticed about reggaeton as a genre, or at least it’s heaviest hitters like Anuel AA and Daddy Yankee, is that pretty much everybody in the genre is absolutely terrified of the idea of doing something different. You can play a modern reggaeton playlist on shuffle and almost every song will have the exact same melodies, percussion, tempo, lyrical themes, etc. I am noticing that newer guys like Bad Bunny and Rosalia are starting to be a lot more open to experimenting ... read more

Arca is back and that is always a cause for joy and fuss. However, and perhaps because I had too high expectations, it seems that in this KiCk i is halfway between what she wanted to transmit and what I wanted to hear. There are brilliant speeches and productions, but sometimes the message is lost in the pursuit of a rage that seems not to know how to manage at all.

To my ears, KiCk i is a nearly perfect album. While this is undoubtedly Arca's most accessible release, it still manages to be just as exciting, forward-thinking, and groundbreaking as her most experimental work. It's both a powerful and incredibly fun album, and I cannot see myself ever getting tired of it. I have no doubt that KiCk i will be a strong contender for my favorite album of 2020.
