WHAT WE DREW 우리가 그려왔던,  is a fascinating album where creative impulses and naiveté are filtered through a strong sense of aesthetics with newfound confidence. It's the sound of a unique artist finding her footing and stepping in the zone.

NME

It may feel a little bittersweet set to the current backdrop of global self-isolation but a record as richly textured as this, and with its focus on communal connection, makes it a ripe world to explore in trying times like these.

80
The Guardian

Straddling the blurry line between dream pop and DIY house, the Korean-American’s first full-length effort is a diaristic work of startling emotional clarity.

80
Pitchfork

Yaeji’s first full-length mixtape is a subtle, more insular turn for the producer. It plays like a self-issued challenge to strip away the fluorescence, to find what’s underneath pop catharsis.

80
Loud and Quiet

Where Yaeji’s WHAT WE DREW 우리가 그려왔던 really succeeds is with its gentle celebration of self-care and small domestic victories.

Beats Per Minute

While her skills as a producer have obviously grown, so has her songwriting, which she is pushing into more intimate spaces without losing any of the playful catchiness that made it so fun to begin with.

80
Q Magazine

Simultaneously disorienting and seductive, Lee's gossamer-light handling of latter-day rap tropes gives the genre a gentle push forward.

Yaeji lays down some pretty production, some introspective lyrics and a few great tunes that showcase a really cool style. Unfortunately, that style can only appease for so long. Not only does most of "WHAT WE DREW" consist of above average hip house-isms, the record also sees a considerable drop in quality during the latter half.

Yaeji is the type of artist that I always expect to go higher than expected, and she rised to the occasion. Production is her main asset, she shines bright in that field. She's fucking unique, not only because she's an asian woman doing electronic music but because she succeeds in it, doing better than most of those shitty DJs out there. This mixtape is just a sneak peek of what she can do, and I bet she's coming for so much more, this is a legend in the making, hear me out!!!!

Every single song on this bursts with creativity and sleek production, growing and morphing beautifully into odd, fun shapes. It feels sonically exploratory and thematically naive, embracing and maximizing yaeji's inventiveness into one massive, solid and refreshing piece of a debut.

Fav tracks: MY IMAGINATION, WHAT WE DREW, IN PLACE, MONEY CAN'T BUY, FREE INTERLUDE, SPELL, WAKING UP DOWN, IN THE MIRROR, THE TH1NG, THESE DAYS

Really fun on the surface with some introspective writing underneath. Great house/ ambient production on here as well. I can see the project growing on me though I wish there were more obvious bops on this.

There is an interesting idea at the core of this record but sadly, the disconnect is much more apparent as the tracklist drags along. This one is a miss for now.
