The golden-voiced singer from Houston has received plenty of hype in the first quarter of 2020; on Heaven Or Hell, he proves he can live up to it.

Although the project heavily draws on Travis Scott’s style, Don Toliver’s high vocals create a whole new sound whilst still paying homage to his mentor. It’s a great solo introduction into the industry.

The melodic Texas rapper attempts to step out of Travis Scott's shadow with a debut that mimics Scott at every turn.

Don Toliver spends pretty much all of Heaven or Hell in the shadow of Travis Scott's sound.

Heaven or Hell ? Dear Don, no matter what happens, you will go to heaven.

The expectation around the MVP nominee Don Toliver was quite impressive, maybe too strong unfortunately, maybe that's what can give this impression of disappointment at first. Don Toliver's Heaven or Hell fails to impress. While there are a few tracks that stand out, the majority of the production feels underwhelming and uninspired. The Travis Scott verse on "Euphoria" is particularly uninteresting and Sheck Wes's feature on "Spaceship" is underwhelming. Additionally, the heavy use of autotune on Don Toliver's voice often comes across as amateurish and doesn't always work. This is disappointing as it takes away from the potential power of his ... read more

There's definitely some duds on here, but where this album shines like on bangers as "After Party" and "Can't Feel My Legs" Don Toliver really shows where he can be different than Travis.
