Florence Welch has a penchant for dramatics ... Lungs ... manages to be grandiose, relatable, and incessantly catchy all at the same time.
Lungs proves they’re worth the adoration.
What you have, right here, is a truly rare thing — a perfect debut. So congratulations, Florence.
Welch, like every pop act, is trying to use her music directly to influence her image, but something about the consistency and craft of Lungs makes it seem that Florence + the Machine cares about the look of her music more than most.
Florence & The Machine’s Lungs is honest music making, real music made through creative innovation for the new age.
Lung's song peaks and valleys can occasionally be tiring. But when taken as an insight into the artist, it's nothing short of brilliant.
Like it or not, Lungs is going to soundtrack what is left of 2009. Grab a piece while it’s hot.
Lungs isn’t great, but it’s good, and it’s not often you can say that about something from the UK that sells 63, 000 copies in its first week.
It would be a surprise, given the weight of media coverage, if Lungs didn't scale the higher reaches of the album chart, but am I alone in considering it yet another case of a lot being made of too little?
These songs probably sound otherworldly when played live, but the over-laden stylization actually fills Lungs with unnecessary fat.
"Lungs" is an album that I have less emotional attachment to, as the lyrics here seem less mature and well developed, which is to be expected since this is the band's first album. However, it's probably their most creative and "cartoonish" album, putting together ideas in an intelligent and beautifully youthful way.
Pure magic from start to finish.
Take Kate Bush and combine her with Weyes Blood and you get Florence + The Machine. So grandiose and dazzling, with amazing vocals, and really lush expansive production. Very consistently colourful with plenty of emotion, and certainly not something I was expecting from a debut album. There isn't much wrong with this album, it's all very well put together, but nothing too life-changing. I can certainly see myself really enjoying their music, because if this ... read more
Florence é uma artista que, por algum motivo, nunca clicou pra mim. Mesmo assim, não há como negar que o som da banda, especialmente nesse álbum, é simplesmente catártico, música pra cantar do fundo do pulmão!

Finally time to check out another artist MOTHER (Ethel Cain) was heavily influenced by, Florence. Now I’ve only known about her existence for a little over a year at this point, originally cuz on the day I found out about Ethel Cain she had performed Morning Elvis with her so that was like the first thing I saw on both of their social medias. And when I started to read more of Ethel Cain’s interviews and stuff, it’s so clear how big of an influence Florence was on her, but I ... read more
