Dark, beautiful, weird, and highlighted with Florence's amazing voice. "Lungs" is a great debut from a now great pop artist.

It's a good idea to listen back to the entirety of Florence and the Machine's debut, and not just the songs that got huge and endured. This is because, well, it's quite good, but it's also fun to see the birth of her now-distinctive aesthetic. Several songs have the instrumentation and melodies that could have been delivered by several singers who get lumped into the quirky British indie pop girl crowd, but the arrangements were too small to box in Florence Walsh's enormous voice.
