Locusts harbors pockets of peaceful reflection.
If destruction is more your appetite, then Ghosts VI: Locusts provides an aural embodiment of the uncertainty and discourse.
Part 2 is as unsettling as a record entitled ‘Locusts’ should be.
The music turns much darker Ghosts VI, which, by proxy, makes it the more interesting of the two.
If Ghosts V was vaguely restful in its ambience, Ghosts VI is deliberately nightmarish and unsettling in the extreme.
As a reflection of the times, Ghosts VI: Locusts might be the more accurate soundtrack to a world on the brink of an uncertain future, wiping away any goodwill fostered by the deceptive serenity of Ghosts V: Together.
Totalling more than 80 minutes of chilling ambient, Ghosts VI is as unsettling as it is dazzling.
Without Together’s relatively rousing melodic template and pacing to propel it, Locusts often feels like its titular swarm, devouring itself for 80-plus minutes until there’s not much left by the end.
Ghosts VI: Locusts is much like its previous installment is another quite ambitiously long (too long for me) ambient record where this is one is more centered around a dark ominous soundscape and given their is more variety in the track listing, i do find myself slightly enjoying Locusts a bit more than Together

He's fallen into the latter career trap where your most successful work is the stuff that sounds like it would function best as soundtrack music...but Reznor is well suited to this world so that's actually fine, if a little chin stroke'y.
Needless to say his 'wanting to fuck you like an animal' days are long gone, so RIP 'little Trent' and god bless
I like "Locusts" slightly better, mostly because I think it has a little bit more variety compared to "Together". It's still a beautiful record, even if it, like the other five installments, a bit overlong and slightly derivative.

I'm really sorry for ruining the track ratings but this is so boring and uninspiring. If this was a movie soundtrack I could see this working but knowing this is supposed to be an album makes it confusing. What is the point of making this? I love Nine Inch Nails but I do not get this at all, I also just don't like ambient music much so maybe it's just a personal preference kind of thing.
Ambient is a genre that can be hard to perfect. It's easy to lose a listener's interest, meaning when it's done well, it's excellent. This, unfortunately, falls into the boring category. I'll start with the positives. The atmosphere this builds, especially at night, is superb. Also, there isn't anything terrible here, my complaint is usually either a lack of content or its length. Because you have to try different things in the song, or you will lose the listeners interest. But that doesn't ... read more
